The Naltar–Pakore Trek is a scenic cross-valley route connecting the lush Naltar Valley near Gilgit with the remote and culturally rich Ishkoman region via a high-altitude pass. Ideal for trekkers seeking a mix of natural beauty and local encounters, this trek leads you through pine forests, alpine lakes, wide meadows, and glaciated passes.

Starting from the forested slopes of Naltar, famous for its vibrant green lakes and ski resort, the route gradually gains elevation as you move toward the high ridges separating Naltar from Ishkoman. The pass offers sweeping views of the Karakoram and Hindukush ranges. On the descent, you’ll pass through the traditional Wakhi and Khowar villages of the Pakore Valley, known for their hospitality and stone-built houses.

This offbeat trek is less commercialized, making it perfect for those who value peaceful trails and cultural immersion. It’s a moderate challenge and can serve as a great introduction to multi-day trekking in northern Pakistan.

What skillset and fitness level are required?

These expeditions are within extreme high altitude environments, with differing requirements when it comes to the ability needed. Due to the nature of the elements involved, you must provide concise, honest descriptions of relevant experience and current fitness levels. Upon receipt, we will review your experience and respond accordingly. At this point, if we consider there to be any shortfalls, we can collectively discuss the opportunities and/or provide a training support plan to achieve your goals.

Yes. We guarantee a 1:1 guide to client ratio on every expedition, with four additional climbing Sherpas acting as reserves, ready to chip in if needed. This helps ensure the highest safety standards.

Should I book pre/post tour accommodation?

We can provide full office facilities at basecamp, including Wi-Fi. Satellite phones are also available throughout the expedition for emergency and essential comms.

What equipment is provided?

All communal equipment is included ie. high quality ropes, stoves, tents etc. You are responsible for personal gear and clothing, eg. harness, crampons, helmet, ice axes etc. A full essentials list and advice (if required) will be provided at time of booking.
