Itinerary

Morning:
Start early from Hunza or Gulmit to make the most of the day. After a light breakfast, begin the scenic drive on the Karakoram Highway heading north toward Khunjerab. Along the way, stop at Attabad Lake, where you can stretch your legs and enjoy the turquoise waters surrounded by steep cliffs. Continue your journey, passing small villages like Passu—known for its iconic cathedral-like peaks.

A brief stop at the Passu Glacier viewpoint offers a chance to photograph one of the region’s most stunning landscapes. You may also pause at the Hussaini Suspension Bridge, one of the world’s most thrilling footbridges.

Midday:
Arrive at Sost, the last town before the border. Take a short break here for refreshments or a warm cup of tea. After a short drive, you’ll enter Khunjerab National Park, where you might spot wildlife such as ibex, marmots, and yaks.

As you reach Khunjerab Pass (elevation: 4,693 m), enjoy spectacular views of snow-covered peaks and the border gate that marks the boundary with China. The cold, crisp air and the silence of the high mountains offer a surreal experience. Spend time taking photos, exploring the surroundings, and enjoying the moment at one of the highest roads in the world.

Afternoon:
Begin the return journey toward Hunza, stopping again at Sost or Passu for a hot local lunch, such as Yak Karahi or traditional Hunzai bread with apricot oil. You can take a short walk around a nearby village to observe the local lifestyle and interact with friendly locals.

Evening:
As you head back, stop again at Attabad Lake to enjoy sunset views over the shimmering water. You may even take a quick boat ride if time allows. Return to your accommodation in Hunza or Gulmit by evening, ending your day with memories of towering peaks, borderland serenity, and the unforgettable beauty of Khunjerab.
