My love affair with Pakistan’s northern mountains began in 1992, on a journey that changed the course of my life. I still remember the feeling of setting out alone on  my motorcycle toward Skardu, riding over the raw, unforgiving Babusar Pass. The roads were hardly roads at all — just rough mountain tracks carved into the earth, cleared by hand and shaped by the will of the people who lived there. With nothing but an old military map, a handful of essentials, and a heart full of curiosity, I ventured into the unknown.

What I discovered was more than breathtaking landscapes — it was a sense of  belonging. I wandered through tiny villages untouched by time, shared tea and stories with strangers who treated me like family, and hiked with locals to heavenly places that only they knew. The calmness of those valleys, the purity of the air, and the kindness of the people awakened something deep within me.

A few years later, another motorcycle journey — this time through Swat, Shandur, Naltar, and Gilgit before reaching Hunza — sealed my connection to these mountains forever. Each turn of the road offered a new revelation: an emerald river, a distant glacier catching the sun, a child waving from the doorway of a mud-brick home. I fell in love not just with the landscapes, but with the soul of northern Pakistan — resilient, warm, and endlessly welcoming.

Since then, I’ve returned to these mountains again and again. They are where I feel most alive. Where time slows down. Where solitude feels like a gift. Where every sunrise reminds me how small we are, and how beautiful this world can be when we choose to explore it with an open heart.

Beyond trekking and exploration, photography, off-roading, and hunting are passions that deepen my connection with land — but my greatest joy is sharing it with others. Helping travelers experience the same sense of wonder, peace, and  discovery that first drew me to the mountains a few decades ago.
